AGI – The number of recruitments activated by private employers in the first nine months of 2023 was a total of 6,272,000, slightly less compared to the same period in 2022 (-0.3%), but still higher than the pre-pandemic level, corresponding to the period of the year 2019. Compared to 2022, the hiring of fixed-term contracts (-7%), permanent contracts (-5%) and apprenticeships (-4%) decreased; all other types saw moderate growth: intermittent work +4%, seasonal and fixed-term +2%. This was revealed by the INPS in the observatory for precarious employment.

There was also a slight decrease in the size groups of enterprises with up to 15 employees (-2%) and with 100 or more employees (-1%); on the other hand, the medium-sized class is growing from 16 to 99 employees (+3.5%). In terms of types of hours, the incidence of part-time work remained almost stable for both fixed-term employees (45%) and employees with permanent contracts (32%)

In terms of types of hours, the incidence of part-time work remained stable for both fixed-term employees (45%) and employees with permanent contracts (32%). Fixed-term transformations in the first nine months of 2023 were 580,000, an increase compared to the same period in 2022 (+4%), which in absolute terms is very slightly lower than the exceptional level of the first nine months of 2019, when 582,000 of them.

Apprenticeship confirmations at the end of the preparation period also fall compared to the corresponding period in 2022 (-17%): this is an expected effect – three years later – of the decline in apprenticeship recruitment observed in 2020.

Terminations in the first nine months of 2023 were 5,527,000, down from the same period last year (-2%). Fixed-term contracts (-7%), open-ended contracts (-6%) and apprenticeship contracts (-5%) contribute to this result. However, fixed-term contracts (+1%) and intermittent work contracts (+3%) are bucking this trend, while seasonal contracts are stable. (AGI)

The number of terminations due to consensual termination is increasing (+6%). This was revealed by the INPS in the observatory for precarious employment.
