Porsche Taycan Turbo S, surprise update: faster than ever

Porsche has always been reluctant to change. Innovating is one thing, completely overturning previous work is another. This philosophy, rooted in the history of German society, continues to influence contemporary models. PUSH Porsche Taycan Turbo S is a tangible example of strategy, although this can sometimes cause it to receive less credit than it actually deserves. The Zuffenhausen bastion of electrification debuted on the market a few years ago. If we consider the external appearance, the current example seems to be identical to the first one. And in fact it is, at least in terms of aesthetics. However, there are important performance differences. According to reports from external agencies, it has shown excellent performance in recent tests.

Porsche Taycan Turbo S: performance increases with overboost

Porsche Taycan Turbo S

The top speed has been increased to 241 km/h, as reported by the website Car and Driver. In addition, there was a significant improvement in acceleration with 0 to 60 (145 km/h), 120 (193 km/h) and 132 mph (212 km/h) never being achieved. The Taycan completed the quarter mile in 10.3 seconds at 130 mph (209 km/h), up from the previous 10.5 seconds. And no, we haven’t forgotten about “0-100”. We left it out because the time taken remains at 2.8 seconds. However, there is an explanation: “overboost”.

The mechanism that momentarily increases the power on the road leads to the same value in “0-100”. Porsche was aware of the launch capacity of the Taycan Turbo S with its potential and risks. Long-term use could endanger the electric drive. So they decided to limit it to three seconds at a time. Once they received the required confirmations and gained more confidence in the vehicle’s capabilities, they increased the duration of using the “overboost” to the current 10 seconds.
