Ski alpinist Olcelli died in an accident

AGI – Tragedy in the world of winter sports: an 18-year-old died in a traffic accident Mirko Lupo Olcelli, 18 years old, leading member of the national team of ski alpinists under 20 years old. A young man joined one this morning frontal collision while driving a car on a state road in Valfurva, Sondrio province, and died instantly.

A 16-year-old girl who was traveling with him suffered chest injuries and is hospitalized in Sondalo Hospital in a non-serious condition. The driver of the other car was not injured and was treated at the scene.

Olcelli was heading to Santa Caterina Valfurva in Alta Valtellina when he lost control of the car and collided with an oncoming vehicle. The causes of the accident are being investigated by the Carabinieri.

“Mirko was commuting to Santa Caterina Valfurva when he lost control and collided head-on with another vehicle coming in the opposite direction.

Young Blue, registered to Alta Valtellina Ski Club, was considered one of the best talents in Italian ski mountaineering. At the beginning of December, he defended the blue colors in the first stage of the Youth Ski Mountaineering World Cup in Meribel, France. Last weekend he took part in the Italian Youth Mixed Relay Cup in San Martino di Castrozza, where he finished fifth.

“The Italian Winter Sports Federation, President Flavio Roda and the Federal Council have rallied around the Olcelli family in these hours of great pain,” said a note from Fisi.
